Ch 50,
Rnd 1
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 47 chs, 3 sc in last ch, turn to work on the bottom loop of chains, see illustration A, sc in next 47 sts, 2 sc in last ch. Join with sl st to beg sc. (100 scs).

 Illustration is to show how to work on the bottom loop of chains. Work the number of sts specified by the pattern.

Updated instructions for Orson Little Bear Hat

Finished Size: 19″ in circumference 7 1/2″ from top to edge.

Top Section – Decagon Top
Work all rounds as they are in the book up to round 15, (90 sts, 5 3/4″).
If you wish to make a bigger hat you can add an extra rnd at this point; each rnd increases the size of the hat by 10 sts or approximately 2″. To make a smaller hat crochet 1 or 2 less rounds.

Main Section
Rnd 1 Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st to beg sc, (90 sts).
Rnd 2-22 Rep Rnd 1. Join with sl st to beg sc, (90 sts). Main Section is approximately 4″ long.

Edging
Rnd 1 Ch 1, Crab Stitch in each st around (see Crab Stitch instructions below). Join with sl st to beg sc, (90 sts). Fasten Off. Weave in Ends.

Crab Stitch Edging
Note: Usually you crochet from right to left, this edging is worked from left to right.
Rnd 1 Ch 1, *sc in the first st to your right and in each st around. Join with sl st to beg st.
